Southampton Planning Board continues disputed cell tower hearing to August 19 after applicant proposes moving tower 750 feet. The board voted unanimously at its July 8 meeting to continue the public hearing on Atlantic Communications' application for a 160-foot monopole at 1 Cook Road, after attorney Francis Parisi presented a sketch plan relocating the tower to the southeastern corner of the active horse-farm parcel, away from the East Hampton border. Parisi confirmed revised civil engineering and radio frequency plans would go to the board's independent peer reviewer, selected from firms including Rural Planning Associates and the Berkeley Group, within two weeks, with a new balloon visibility test scheduled for Saturday, July 18 from 9 a.m. to noon.
East Hampton Precinct 5 City Councilor Tamara Smith read a unanimous East Hampton City Council resolution opposing the tower, citing that the proposed site falls within 1,500 feet of 111 East Hampton residences versus 15 Southampton residences. The federal 150-day shot clock places the board's decision deadline at approximately October 1, 2026.
